Tahiria Welfare Trust besides the ‘AILA’ affected people…
A devastating cyclone named ‘AILA’ affected a vast part of the Sundarban, North 24 Parganas and south 24 Parganas of West Bengal on 25th May, 2009. The 90 to 100 kms speedy cyclone lasted for almost 24 hours. The people of the areas had never observed such powerful and long lasting Cyclone during the last century.
The very powerful Cyclone ransacked a wide part of the Sundarbans and North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas. High waves caused by the Cyclone washed away a large part of the damn, hundreds of human lives and thousands of cattle and numerous mud and bamboo made houses of inhabitants of the island like area.
As a result not only thousands of people but la
kes of homeless men, women and children and elderly persons had to remain under the open sky. There were no food, no drinking water, no clothes, no baby food or, medicine. You could only hear the cries for missing relatives.
In a word, the suffering of the flood affected was indescribable. Under the circumstances Tahiria Welfare Trust jumped immediately with aid such as food, medicine, drinking water, clothes, baby food for helping the distressed and sufferers. Relief camps were conducted continuously for one month. Medical camps were also being conducted under the supervision of doctors of Tahiria Hospital for over one month.
Alhamdulillah, TWT had been able to stand by the side of AILA affected!
